What is Turmeric/Curcumin?
Turmeric is a delicious, natural spice that has been used by ancient Indian cultures for centuries due to the spice’s flavor-enhancing properties and nutrient compounds.
Curcumin is the main active ingredient present in turmeric and is responsible for many of the touted benefits of the spice. However, some of the turmeric products on the market may not be the optimal methods for preserving this ingredient.
Our turmeric extracts are standardized to contain 95% curcumin, which extracted by using water as a solvent instead of the widely-used methanol.
What is the difference between Turmeric and Curcumin?
Great question! While they are not the same thing, curcumin is the bioactive compound that is contained within the herb turmeric. Sometimes, these can be used interchangeably, but always remember, turmeric is the delivery truck and curcumin is the package!
Why is Black Pepper added?
Curcumin is unfortunately absorbed poorly in the human body, and this was once believed to reduce the therapeutic potential. However, a recent study showed that the addition of piperine, a component in black pepper, can increase the bioavailability of curcumin by up to 2000%! We have added 5 grams of piperine to our turmeric powder range, to ensure optimal levels of absorption.
