What is acerola?

Acerola, or Malpighia emarginata, is a delicious cherry-like berry that is cultivated from the deep shrubs of South America, The Caribbean, and Mexico. Because of these tropical origins, it is sometimes referred to as the ‘Barbados Cherry’.

Like all of our products, our acerola powder is 100% organic and contains no additional ingredients. In addition, it is freeze-dried at very low temperatures of 40-50° to keep the full body of nutrients intact.

The refreshing powder also provides several essential nutrients including vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, calcium and iron from the natural cherry-like berry.

Key Health Aspects

The nutrient-rich acerola berry is one of the most potent natural sources of vitamin C available, but also boasts an attractive profile of anthocyanins. These are natural plant compounds with powerful antioxidant functions that can help to reduce inflammation, improve circulation and support immune function.

Where does acerola come from?

Acerola is indigenous and grows most commonly in the aamazonian rainforests of South America, but also Mexico.

Which acerola supplement is best?

There are not many acerola supplements on the market yet. We got there pretty early! Of those that are, it is important that you know the brand that you are considering purchasing from. They should be reputable and have a long-standing guarantee of quality products.

In terms of the supplement specifically, make sure that there are not a bunch of additional ingredients added in. Simple is best! And finally, make sure there wasn't extensive heating methods used in the processing, as this can degrade vitamin C.

Vitamin C

Acerola is one of the richest food sources of Vitamin C available. In fact, studies have shown that it may contain over five times the Vitamin C content of oranges, strawberries, and other fruits.

By freeze-drying and delicately grinding berries into a fine, delicate powder, we have been able to pack even more of these nutrients into a small, bite-sized scoop. Vitamin C is essential for the support of the immune system to fight off and prevent illness.

Antioxidants

Our acerola powder also provides a highly-concentrated source of antioxidants from the super-berry. These are known as anthocyanins and help to scavenge (or quench) harmful compounds that develop in the body during inflammation. Higher consumption of these antioxidants may help to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and support immune function.

Acerola also contains beta-carotene (Vitamin A), calcium, iron, and a host of other important vitamins and minerals. These are essential nutrients required for hundreds of interactions within the body such as the production of energy, digestion, cognitive functioning, and nerve health. You can be sure that we have kept these intact in our versatile powder!
