It is crucial to understand that sustainability does not equal quality by default. Laboratory testing has shown that fish collagen from wild-caught cod - MSC certified or not - contains arsenic (and inorganic arsenic) and lead. Plent Marine Collagen is free of arsenic and lead, as confirmed by independent laboratory tests. This is one of the main reasons why we use collagen from farmed fish for our Fish Collagen.

Why choose fish collagen instead of bovine collagen?

Traditionally, collagen supplements use bovine (cows) and porcine (pigs) as collagen sources. But as further studies were done, collagen from marine life is more sustainable and of better quality. Plent Marine Collagen is free from heavy metal

Though many fish collagens are marketed as clean, once you start testing raw materials or consumer products, you’ll find arsenic (also inorganic arsenic) and other heavy metals such as lead. This has been found especially in so called “wild caught” fish collagen. These heavy metals bio-accumulate throughout the food chain and is hence found in various raw materials and consumer products.
