BCAA is an abbreviation for branched-chain amino acids, ie. the branched amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. They are 3 of the 9 essential amino acids. These amino acids play an important role in the body in terms of protein synthesis and energy production.

BCAAs are responsible for the largest amount of essential amino acids in the body (35-40%) and are also present in high muscle concentrations (16%).

Leucine is an important amino acid for stimulating muscle building. Intake of 2.5-3 g of leucine per meal is a prerequisite for activating this process.

Isoleucine is number two because it improves glucose metabolism and increases glucose uptake into the muscles.

Valine is the third amino acid and interacts with leucine and isoleucine.

Different concentrations of BCAAs are found naturally in foods, highly concentrated in animal products.
