What is Iodine

Iodine is needed for the formation of thyroid hormones that are important for growth and metabolism. Iodine is also important for the proper functioning of the nervous system and supports the energy supply.

What is it in?

Iodine can occur naturally in seawater, in soil and in drinking water. Iodine ends up in foods such as sea fish and vegetables. Milk and milk products also contribute to iodine intake.

How much do I need?

The recommended daily allowance for adults is set at 150 micrograms per day. 175 micrograms is recommended during pregnancy. For women who are breastfeeding, an RDA of 200 micrograms per day is used.
