What is Calcium

The mineral calcium gives firmness to the skeleton and teeth. Calcium is also necessary for the proper functioning of the muscles and for guiding stimuli to the nerves. Calcium is also involved in, among other things, blood clotting, cell growth and hormone metabolism. In addition, it contributes to the energy supply of our body cells.

What is it in?

Calcium is mainly found in dairy products such as milk and cheese. Bread, vegetables, legumes and potatoes contain much less calcium than dairy products, but do contribute to the total calcium supply.

How much do I need?

The required amount of calcium depends, among other things, on age and gender. According to the Health Council, adult men and women (19-50 years) need an average of 1000 milligrams (= 1 gram) of calcium. This corresponds to 4 to 5 glasses of milk.
