What is wheatgrass powder?
Wheatgrass is an explosive superfood with a range of healthful compounds. It is commonly enjoyed as fresh juice, in smoothies, or as a shot. However, we have formulated a brand-new, organic, whole-leaf powder. By condensing the wheatgrass leaves into a concentrated powder, we have created a richer source of nutrients. This eliminates the work of growing the plant and juicing every morning while providing all the same benefits.
Our wheatgrass powder is a whole-leaf formula, sustainably cultivated from the young, budding leaves of the wheat plant
, Triticum aestivum, in China
. After harvesting and drying, the leaves are delicately ground into a fine powder. Low temperatures are always used to best preserve the diverse range of active enzymes and other phytonutrients.
- Vitamin C
- Iron
- Fibre
- Active enzymes
- Chlorophyll
Is wheatgrass gluten free?
Yes, despite the fact that it does origniate from a wheat-containing plant, this juice powder is certified gluten free and is suitable for those following a gluten-free diet.
What is the difference between barley grass and wheatgrass?
Barley grass and wheatgrass are similar in their nutritional profiles, however, they differ in one simple category - the source from which they are harvested. Barley grass powder comes from barley grass, and wheatgrass powder from, you guessed it, wheatgrass.
How is barley grass powder made?
Barley grass powder is made by harvesting the young, ripe leaves soon after they have sprouted. They are then freeze-dried and pulverized into a powder using delicate processes all the way through.
Key health aspects of wheatgrass powder
Our 100% organic wheatgrass is a naturally-rich source of several essential nutrients such as vitamin C, iron as well as fibre. These can give you a great morning kick and are some of the fantastic reasons why our wheatgrass powder is highly popular.
Vitamin C
Just one small teaspoon of our wholesome wheatgrass powder will provide more than twice your daily vitamin C needs, an essential water-soluble vitamin that acts an antioxidant in the body. Vitamin C may also help to reduce the duration of colds (Source: Examine.com). And while it may not reduce the frequency of colds among the general population, it has may provide protective effects in athletes (Source: Examine.com).
Iron
3Wheatgrass is also a natural source of iron, a crucial mineral that many people do not get enough of. Iron is a mineral that is incorporated into hemoglobin, the oxygen-transport cells of our body. It is essential for the efficient delivery of oxygen to all tissues and thus, energy production.
Insoluble fibre
Our organic wheatgrass powder is a rich source of fibre, and more specifically, insoluble fibre. Juicing is typically used to remove the insoluble fibre from the leaves during the processing of most green powders. However, this step is excluded from the process here. We cannot digest this form of fibre, and so it can contribute to improved digestion, reduced cholesterol, and suppression of hunger (JAND.org).
Active enzymes
Although research is preliminary, wheatgrass is believed to contain a diverse range of active enzymes with potent antioxidant capabilities in the body. In particular, superoxide dismutase and cytochrome oxidase, are known for their scavenging ability (Source: Fazos). What does this mean?
At all times, we have harmful molecules called free radicals building up in our bodies. However, these are ‘scavenged’ by antioxidative phytonutrients that we consume through a balanced diet. Think of scavenging as chemically defusing.
Chlorophyll
Another reason for the exceptional popularity of wheatgrass is the chlorophyll content of the superfood. One study reported that it contained more than 9 times more than broccoli! (Source: SAJEB)
Chlorophyll is a pigment that is only found in plants and is required to produce nutrients through photosynthesis. While humans cannot use it for the same reasons, chlorophyll may also help to detoxify harmful substances in the body. It is also believed to promote skin repair, blood sugar control, and oxygen delivery.
